Screenprinting! "City Walker"

I learned how to screenprint! Friend and fellow artist extraordinaire Kathy Jaller graciously set up a hands on workshop in her studio this weekend, and we all had a blast.

We had a session yesterday and today, learning how to stretch, prep, and burn screens. I made a screen of City Walker and Dive, and started experimenting on paper. Next week will be devoted to printing (shirts maybe?). I just printed the robot today, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the fish looks when I try it out next week!

Apologies for image quality, these were taken with my phone camera -

This is a piece for the Robots and Monsters charity - source words: angelic, dragon, oriental. Learn more about the charity here.

Looks like things are going to be busy with life and work for the next few months, hopefully I can keep up!

Hand Practice - ink in sketchbook - 11" x 8"

Tried to make good on my post earlier to practice drawing hands. Got off to a pretty good start, then got distracted... whoops

Ah well, I'll try again later =)

01 17 10 doodle - ink and coffee in sketchbook - 11" x 8"

Had a pretty bad case of painter's block this weekend... so I went to the local coffee shop and just doodled for a while.

note to self: draw more hands, lack of practice makes for shitty looking hands.

"Hey Reddit" - ink, watercolor and gouache on paper - 7" x 10"

I posted something in a thread on reddit a few days back and got a really positive response to my artwork. I figured it was the least I could do to paint something for the community -- as a thank you for all the nice comments and bump in traffic =).

(redditors love narwhals. but really, who doesn't?)

First painting of the year! This was pretty satisfying to finish... it feels like many of the techniques I've been experimenting with are melding well =).

Something small for tonight... the robot from yesterday's post has been irreversibly damaged and is now resting in the discard pile. R.I.P.

It's okay though, maybe I won't screw up the next one =).

Crayola Model Magic is fun! Caught up with an old friend last night, and we just sat around making little clay figures... like bunny snails, bunny slugs, bunny giraffes...

Happy New Year everyone =).

(backdating this post because my hosting service was down for a couple hours last night. grrrrrr...)
