  1. She's here too - http://lindsaywhipple.blogspot.com/

  2. I see some similarities between you two, but hers seems more cartoony kiddish, whereas yours is more straight up awesome.

  3. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Looks like she's an art student who is still trying to figure out her own style by copying others.

  4. wow... shameful

  5. The sincerest form is to compliment the work. Not copy the work.

  6. are you going to confront her?

  7. Seems like copying to me, no bones about it..

  8. Very fishy.

  9. you guys just have similar styles. originality doesn't exist anymore, especially in the art world.

  10. This makes me kinda sad, it's nice to learn from other artists and try out some of their techniques, but she's pushing the line there. Maybe you should mention it to her.
    Hap

  11. She's young and still finding her way. Lets see how she responds to this blog.

  12. What a shame. With her education, she should know better. grrr

  13. It's very similar in many cases, but it's hard to say if it's really copying or not... hmm...

  14. I've been following you for a while, I stumbled upon you.. and I love your work.
I looked at her work, and what I don't like about it is that she is pretty much doing the same work as you, but getting paid for it. (the holiday cards? jeeze)

Best of Luck to you, and please keep your blog up!
I need your blog for an art investigation.. haha

  15. Copyright's??

  17. She even sighs her name kinda the same.

  18. Her reply at http://lindsaywhipple.blogspot.com/2009/09/so-i-had-some-time-to-post-couple-of.html.

She has a point about anonymous heckling being obnoxious. Besides, I agree with some others that she is a young artist trying to find her style, learning by imitation. Selling the work as "original" is legitimate, after all she's not explicitly copying.

  19. I guess she is doing the work herself (even though the idea came from you). And her argument that she can't list every single artist she's ever been influenced by is true. But when she has recently seen your work and *purposely* decided to go in that direction, it would be nice to at least acknowledge you on her site.

    BTW - You are fabulous!

  20. First time commenter, just wanted to say that I've been following this blog for about a year now - I love the stuff you do and hopefully at some point I'll be able to save up enough to purchase an original piece.

Her stuff is a little too close to comfort for me, but like others have said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  21. her art does seem like many imitations, where it lacks a certain feel to it...

  22. I have been following you blog and have been in love with your work for a few years now and it most definitely has influenced some of my work. I am not and never will be nearly as creative and talented as you, but you totally inspired me to branch out and try new things. Her work at times is almost identical to yours Mr. Yang which is discomforting. It's one thing to copy and mention it as a copy, and another to change the background color and call it an original. Hopefully she'll branch out and find her own style much like I'm trying to do.

  23. as well as modernism, expressionism, we now have the yangism!
