So long, 2009!

Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2010 won't suck quite as much as 2009 did. . .

On a random side note, I have exactly the same number of posts this year as I did last year. Not quite one for every day, but not too terrible either =).

Take care, see you all on the other side!

It was good to head home and hang with the family. Didn't get too much drawing done, but definitely got a lot of eating done!

Got back into SF last night, so trying to get some painting done before work starts up again.

Hope everyone's having a great holiday!

The show went off great, thank you to everyone who braved the crappy weather to check out the art! Lots of fun, and then the rest of the weekend was just very nice and relaxing.

I started working on a really big doodle, here's a piece of it here... this will be on the scale of the Work Graffiti piece, so should be fun =).

Will be posting more pictures as it progresses

Nice! Gallery1988 just sent out a reminder email about the Paper Pushers show opening tomorrow -- and at the end of the email they announced new print releases.

Gallery1988 is releasing a new limited edition print of one of my pieces, "Tree Triptych." This was the most voted for piece in the print poll I had earlier in the year, and I'm really excited that the folks at Gallery1988 decided to make it part of their print catalog.

Print info:

Paper Pushers 2009 catalog

It's been a good weekend! I finished framing everything as the sun was coming up on Saturday morning -- then promptly passed out for a few hours.

Got some coffee, shipped some prints out (they're selling well! =) and stopped by Gallery 1988 SF to drop off the pieces. There's one more piece of exciting news, but it will have to wait a few more days...

In the meantime, here are the pieces I'll be showing at Gallery1998 SF's 2009 Paper Pushers show. The opening will be Friday, December 11, details are here.

Awesome!

In the midst of framing and documenting everything for the drop off date tomorrow -- doesn't look like I'm going to sleep tonight =P. But yes, somehow in the midst of everything I managed to finish off the series of cephalopods...

They mutated rather quickly, ha.

But hopefully the next post will be of everything framed and ready to go!

Another piece for the show! Coming down to the wire though... only a couple days left before the drop off deadline for the Paper Pushers show!

Aghhh!

...

In other news, the show at Lower Haters is tomorrow, and Giant Robot the day after that! Neat!

Hi all, hope everyone's having a great winter thus far! Three chunks of news for you all today.

Shows
I have three shows coming up in the next couple weeks... all in San Francisco, so if you're in the area it'd be great to see you!

"Seussian Yellow" - One of the new pieces I'll be showing at "Paper Pushers" next week.

Friday, December 4th - "For the City" at Lower Haters. Annual holiday sale, tons of great artists will be showing their work. See show details here.

Saturday, December 5th - "Printed Matter 7" at Giant Robot SF. I'll be selling my brand new limited edition prints here! See show details here.

Friday, December 11th - "Paper Pushers" at Gallery 1988 SF. This will be my last biggish show of the year, I'll be showing ten new pieces. See show details here. I'll be sending out a reminder email closer to the show with a preview of my work.

Prints
My last run of limited edition prints were of "The Chase." That run is officially sold out and closed, but never fear... You may remember that I asked you to take part in a poll a while back. Well, I've taken in the results, and am happy to announce that I have three new limited edition prints available!
Introducing three new limited edition prints - "Bloom", "Raspberry Triptych", and "Blue Meeting". There will be one hundred of each made. My favorite print shop SF Electric Works really outdid themselves this time - the colors are incredibly vibrant, and the archival watercolor paper feels and looks wonderful.

These prints are available for sale immediately! "Bloom" for $80, "Raspberry Triptych" for $80, and "Blue Meeting" for $60. Prices do not include shipping and handling ($15 in US, more if elsewhere). If interested, please email me with the name of the print you'd like to purchase in the subject line. See more details here.

Skins
The last piece of news is that Gelaskins has just added my "Bloom" piece to their catalog of featured artist skins. This is my fourth piece with them, and I'm pretty excited to see how it will do. Take a look - you can have this artwork (as well as the artwork of many, many talented artists) on your phone, iPod, laptop, gaming device, even a Rock Band guitar!

And that's about it folks. Thanks for bearing with me, and I hope you all have a great day!

A new Seussian Pink -- this one fits a bit better with the other two as a series... Renamed the other one Seussian Elder, since it might be the older, grittier version of this =).

Cheers!

Hmmm. I may go back and redo the pink one though, it doesn't really sit quite right with me... Ah well, I'll worry about it tomorrow.

Did some live painting at a guerilla dining event tonight -- here's one of the pieces that came out of it -

The guerilla dining event was by GraffEats. The food was so good... if you have a chance definitely check out one of their events coming up - it's for a good cause as well!

I swapped this piece for a delicious bottle of absinthe by the good people of Old World Spirits.

What a fun night =)

The new limited edition prints are here!

Same as before -- each is a limited set of 100 prints on archival watercolor paper. Super high quality, beautiful colors, the folks at SF Electric Works (the print shop I used) really outdid themselves this time.

Dr. Sketchy's Roadshow - "DD 20 Minute Pose"

"DD, 20 minute pose 2" - marker on paper - 17" x 14"

Dr. Sketchy's Roadshow was in San Jose last night!

It was a ton of fun, and by the end of the night I had a respectable stack of sketches of the models in various stages of undress.

For the uninitiated, "Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret meets art school." It's life drawing, but the setup, atmosphere, characters, etc -- make it so much more than just life drawing. If there is a Dr. Sketchy's near you, I highly highly recommend it.

Find out more information about Dr. Sketchy's here.

Bucket of Does

"Bucket of Does"

For the confused:
Verizon came out with a new phone, DROID, whose tagline is "A bare knuckled bucket of does." This works fine for TV ads, but in print not so much. Nancy Friedman blogged about how this works fine for TV ads, but in print not so much. My friend Bronwyn Jones sent me a link and asked me to draw a bucket of does.

And here it is.

"Bunny Triptych" - ink, watercolor and gouache on paper - 5" x 6"

I had to set up this shot on my other table... my studio table is too crazy right now with all the contrasting colors. It wouldn't do justice to the piece if the background more distracting than the piece itself =P.

Click through

Also, it looks like the numbers for the poll have solidified. I've decided on four pieces to make prints of... stay tuned for more details!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

"I-57" - photograph and digital

Didn't really feel like painting today...

I dug up this old picture I took a couple years ago on a trip back to my alma mater. I-57 was the lifeline that connected college to home for many of my classmates, as well as myself. I hadn't been back in a while, and driving a couple hours through the flatness was like going back in time.

Ahhh, I'm starting to sound old.

Time to make some prints

(about ten left)

Hi all!

As you may or may not know, I've been selling prints of "The Chase" for the last year or so. Well, they've been selling pretty steadily, and right now there are only about ten left from an original run of 100. These are limited edition prints, so there won't be anymore printed once these are gone.

That being said, I've started looking at my catalog to figure out what my next limited edition print(s) should be... Over the years I've had many requests to make specific pieces into prints, but I thought it might be nice to open it up to the broader audience with a poll.

Please click this large text link to take my online poll. I promise it's short and sweet with a lot of pretty pictures.

Your help is much appreciated.

Breathing Wash

10 31 09 WIP - watercolor on paper - 12" x 9"

Lots of errands and things to do today (including Halloween drinking =)... but started things off for the next piece with a nice wash.

It's kind of funny, I took two pictures of the piece -- one while the paint was wet, and one when it was completely dry. I figured it might be appropriate to the season to make it into a breathing animation.

"Pomegranate Bear" - pomegranate juice and ink on paper- 3 1/2" x 5"

It's pomegranate season, which means pomegranates for dinner!

I was deseeding one, and the juice was getting everywhere... The color was incredibly vibrant, so I experimented with bursting some onto a scrap of paper.

And then I made it into a bear =).
